(Her mother is a dowager countess.) My hostess is not titled. The procession into the dining room would still start with the highest ranking male and female, correct? Thank you for any assistance. I am getting myself confused!

If she is the eldest daughter (like Jane in Pride & Prejudice) than she is addressed as Miss Hutchins. If not, she is Miss Carolyn Hutchins. Anything that gives the reader pause, or takes them out of the book, is not good.
