| |
Say an unmarried woman resides as the guest at Berkeley Square with a wealthy Viscount under the chaperone of an older, but unmarried, woman (the sister of the Viscount) would this be scandalous? I've read of similar situations like this, but am not sure whether or not it's frowned on by society.
If it is frowned on, what could I do so that a scandal wouldn't be caused were an unmarried women to reside with a man? Should the chaperon perhaps be married? |

You definitely need another woman in residence. If she is the viscount's sister, that seems okay to me, especially if the sister resides there and is not just visiting. Make it so that your heroine is the sister's guest and not the viscount's guest. Remember in Northanger Abbey that Catherine was allowed to visit the Abbey as a guest of Tilney's sister, who was neither old nor married, and not as Tilney's guest. _________________
