Very well said, Claudia!! That is what makes it all work superbly. We also get to see James being a bad boy (scene 1) but again not a bad person. What is also interesting is that both Francesca and James don't value themselves as people, they value the work personnae (courtesan and spy, respectively). That makes them eminently suited for each other. They help each other to become, to grow into loving and deserving of love people. _________________ Medieval & Regency Writer

One of the things I loved about this book was the way both James and Francesca found themselves so uncharacteristically vulnerable to the other. Each of them lost professional detachment and cool control. James tended to forget what he was supposed to be doing, and Francesca found herself weeping a lot. I loved those parallels, how each of them was sort of a wreck whenever the other was around. Two jaded adults feeling like school kids in love.
I'm a huge fan, Loretta, and this book is way up there with the best of them. _________________

Thank you, Emily. That's exactly how I felt about what was going on with them: "Two jaded adults feeling like school kids in love." What a great way to express it! _________________ "Oh that I had the art of easy writing/What should be easy reading." Lord Byron |

I loved this book. Francesca refused to be humbled, degrade or humiliated. Her husband cheated on her. She had her own affair. He divorced her, citing adultery. She doesn't retire to the country in shame. She becomes a courtesan, who is very selective about her lovers. I hate stories when sex is a means to degrade and humiliate a woman. _________________ Forget my inner child, I am trying to embrace my outer crone. |

Thank you, thank you! One of the things I loved about creating Francesca was giving her sexual confidence and power. _________________ "Oh that I had the art of easy writing/What should be easy reading." Lord Byron |
