| a countess is introducing someone to her sons, one of whom is the earl. she would introduce them as lord x and...lord familyname? |

First off, the second son does not have a courtesy title. He is not Lord FamilyName. He is the Honorable Mr. FamilyName. This is the one instance where the ladies win out. ALL daughters of earls are Lady FirstName, whereas only the eldest son gets a courtesy title.
If the person being introduced is of lower precedence, the countess PRESENTS him to her sons. If the person being introduced is of higher rank, the countess presents her sons to him. _________________
