Hello Writers!

I have a question regarding a soldier:

I have a scene with a soldier at a ball after the Napoleonic Wars are over. I have him in uniform but wonder if this would be common. Would soldiers wear uniforms after battle are finished or only while battles are still being fought?

Thanks!

I sure hope so! Wink Half the men ever mentioned in my story wear uniform...

Well, I would say that as long as he still held a commission of whatever rank, thus was still in the army even if only on half-pay, he certainly could wear uniform to a formal event like a ball if he desired.

As Wellies said, if he's still commisioned, then he could certainly wear his uniform. And since women always find a man in uniform sexy, I'd think he'd wear the thing all the time! Very Happy

Please just remember that dress uniforms had PUMPS not BOOTS. There are really wonderful accounts of officers fighting the battle of Waterloo in their pumps (and loosing them in the mud) because they went directly to the field from the Duchess of Richmond's ball without stopping to change.
