Sorry if this a general research question, but what would a regency lady wear for outerwear??? Would she have a cloak, or something like a modern day coat, or indeed something in-between??? _________________

Yes, this sort of question should go in the General Research forum as anyone with relevant knowledge can answer it. The forum Questions for Candice is for questions specific to me, my books, my writing process, my events schedule, etc.
Regarding your question about outerwear, you might want to consider getting a copy of English Women's Clothing in the Nineteeth Century by C. Willet Cunnington. It's a pretty good overview of all the aspects of women's clothing throughout the century. You can order it through Amazon. If y ou're going to write books set in the 19th century, this is one of those must-have books that should be on your research shelves.
In the meantime, you can see images of various kinds of outer wear in three collections on my website:
Walking Dresses 1806-1812
Walking Dresses 1813-1815
Walking Dresses 1816-1818 _________________

And the answer is that both were worn. From what I can tell, cloaks were worn more in the country for every day use and in town with evening wear. Coats, specifically pelisses and redingotes, were usually worn over day dresses when it was cold enough that a spencer wasn’t enough. _________________ -Kalen
