A suspensory loop is contemporary with the original manufacture, and indicates the vinaigrette would have been worn on a chain as a locket or as part of a chatelaine. Maker unknown, Birmingham, 1816.
Bottom: Sterling vinaigrette in the shape of a wallet, with chased floral border on sides, and bright-cut decoration on lid and reverse. Grill pierced and engraved with a basket of flowers. Joseph Taylor, Birmingham, 1818.
