I'm listening to the House of Commons debate between Gordon Brown (PM) and the Opposition Minister have at it on C-Span for background atmosphere while I'm writing my scene. All the heckling, booing, and ayes make for very active participation by the MPs even as the leaders hold forth. I'm wondering if such vocal proceedings were common even in our era and in the House of Lords? _________________ Medieval & Regency Writer

I think it's an age old British tradition, Keira.
When I sat in on a session when I visited last year, I loved how they were so verbal in the House of Commons, whether they heckled or cheered. But it was a different story in the House of Lords. Very polite and sedate. _________________

Oh, I didn't know that the MPs of the Commons were supposed to behave like, well, commoners, but the Lords were more circumspect. I have some noise, not as much as I heard on TV last night, but probably still more than what more than what you describe. I'll take it out. Thanks much, Candice. _________________ Medieval & Regency Writer

I've always wanted to see inside the Houses of Parliament. For that matter, I'd like to get into the American Senate or Rep to see what it's like for our politicians. I'm just generally fascinated with politics. _________________ Edwardian Promenade // blog of all things Edwardian! |

I really love watching the scenes set in the the House in The Winslow Boy. All the bluster and shouting and "I am standing, Sir!". _________________ -Kalen

I loved the movie Winslow Boy, too. Marvelously depicted with gorgeous, restrained yet intense acting. _________________ Medieval & Regency Writer
