Evening Full Dress, September 1819

British Lady’s Magazine, September 1819.

“Evening Full Dress.”

Though these later years of the Regency are not my favorite in terms of fashion as it often gets too fussy for me, I think this is a very pretty dress. The very high waistline is typical for this period, even though the description says it is cut lower than usual! The depth of ornamentation at the hem is also typical.

Note that the pink we see is from the under-dress. The over-dress is gauze and therefore transparent.

The print is described in the magazine as follows:

“A round gauze frock worn over a pink satin dress; the trimming is intermixed with leaves of satin; the waist rather longer than usual, cut low round the bust, which is trimmed with blond and satin leaves; the sleeve is full and short, composed of satin and blond. The hair is ornamented with a wreath of roses and lilies. Pearl necklace and ear-rings. White kid gloves and white satin shoes.”
